Individual Counseling

Individual counseling is the most common form of counseling and typically what one thinks of when deciding to seek the help of a counselor. We can help you identify your concerns and assist you in finding the best ways to cope with difficult situations by changing thoughts and behaviors that contribute to the problem or by finding constructive ways to deal with a situation that is beyond your personal control. We offer help in addressing many situations that cause emotional stress, including, but not limited to:

anxiety, depression, and other psychological and emotional problems and disorders

family and relationship issues

substance abuse and other addictions

sexual abuse and domestic violence

eating disorders

career change and job stress

social and emotional difficulties related to disability and illness

adapting to life transitions

anger management

grief following loss of a loved one, relationship, or job.

Relationship Counseling

Relationship Counseling seeks to assist individuals in relationships to recognize and better manage unhelpful habits and repeating patterns that create stress within the relationship. The relationship involved may be between a couple, members of a family, a long-term friendship, or even those in a professional relationship (coworkers, employee/employer, etc). Throughout the therapeutic process, your clinician will work to help you see the relationship in a more objective manner, change the way that you behave with each other, help you to express your feelings more effectively, improve your communication, and build resilience by focusing on your strengths.

Group Counseling

Group therapy is a special form of therapy in which 1 or 2 therapists work with a small group of 4 to 10 people who are struggling with a similar issue. Research has shown that group therapy is at least as effective as individual therapy for people struggling with symptoms of depression, anxiety, substance use and other addictive behaviors, eating disorders, and borderline personality disorder. Groups provide a supportive, confidential environment that helps group members realize quickly that they are not alone or unique in their struggles. Participating in group therapy offers many benefits such as:

The opportunity to learn both from active participation and just simply listening.

You will be able to interact with and listen to people who have successfully worked through a problem.

A more cost-effective way to engage in therapy if you don’t have insurance at this time
(and possibly even if you do have insurance depending on your plan benefits).

Group participation is typically covered by your behavioral health insurance benefits. If you do not have behavioral health insurance benefits at this time, the group facilitator will discuss participation fees with you. To participate in one of the groups listed below you first need to schedule a comprehensive intake appointment to complete an assessment and discuss your needs.

THE BETTER ALTERNATIVE PROGRAM

More people have insurance today than ever before, allowing them to finally have access to the mental health care they deserve. However, the cost of care can still be prohibitive, especially at the higher levels of care. The time required to stabilize clients often leaves them without insurance benefits to adequately cover the step-down process. Additionally, many of the newly insured are unable to take time off from work or childcare to be able to remain in treatment.

In response to these needs, HBH Counseling has developed The Better Alternative program – an outpatient-based treatment program for individuals with mental health disorders and trauma related disorders, substance use and other addictive behavior disorders, and co-occurring disorders.

WHAT IS THE BETTER ALTERNATIVE

The Better Alternative program is a treatment plan truly custom tailored to each client’s needs and schedules. After completing a comprehensive intake assessment, each client is presented with a plan integrating individual, group, couples, and family therapy that takes into consideration their identified mental health, scheduling, and financial needs and constraints. We offer some of our groups as individual sessions as well for clients who are a little shy. Clients can attend between 2 and 6 sessions per week, depending on their insurance plan, with different therapists within the practice. If medication is involved or needed, we coordinate with a client’s current prescriber or help the client find a prescriber who is in network or has affordable fees.

Do you already have an individual therapist outside of HBH Counseling who you like and trust? Since the therapeutic relationship is key to successful treatment, we prefer clients maintain an existing relationship with their clinician outside of HBH Counseling while participating in this program. We are always looking to partner with other clinicians to enhance your treatment success.
